Tip to reduce swelling after rhinoplasty surgery

The reason of swelling after rhinoplasty surgery is related to bleeding and tissue damage.

To reduce swelling, Hanabi rhinoplasty clinic minimizes this bleeding and tissue damage during operation, and provide High pressure oxygen treatment.

Swelling is unavoidable, and it is a part of recovery process. In general, big swelling(visible swelling) disappear in about a week, and small swelling disappear in three months to six months.

1. Resting and Sleeping
Enough resting and sleeping with soft pillow is helpful in relieving swelling. And It is good that you keep your head higher than your heart during resting and sleeping.

2. Compress with ice and warm pack.

Apply the cold compress for the first three days after the surgery. And then apply warm compress following clinic’s guideline. Do not apply on nose. Apply to the area around eyes, forehead, cheeks, and around nose.

3. Walkinig

Walking prevents blood clots from forming, and help to reduce swelling.

4. Nasal splint.

5. Eat good food.

6. Medications

7. Stop smoking and alcohol
If you are smoker, stop smoking for one month is helpful for reducing swelling. And alcohol thins the blood, therefore, avoid drinking alcohol for at least 4 weeks.
